MP Assembly holds special session

BHOPAL [Maha Media]: A special session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly is underway on Monday. Uproar erupted in the House during a discussion on the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan’ topic, following which Congress MLAs staged a walkout.

Meanwhile, Congress MLA Abhijeet Shah was heading to the Assembly with a tractor-trolley, but police stopped him at the barricades near the Secretariat. Shah claimed he had obtained a pass for the tractor, while police officials said tractors are not permitted inside.

This led to a heated argument and pushing between the MLA and police personnel. Later, Shah entered the House carrying a bundle of wheat.

During the discussion, Congress MLA Rajendra Singh said the government brought the Women’s Reservation Bill only because elections were due in West Bengal, but they were unable to defeat Mamata Banerjee there.

Minister Krishna Gaur said the fall of the Bill in Parliament was a major setback for the women of the country. Women had hoped their political aspirations would get wings, but Congress and the opposition shattered those hopes.

She added that legal principles state, ‘Where there is a right, there is a remedy.’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi tried to grant that right, but Congress insulted crores of women.

Congress MLA Nitendra Singh Rathore, reacting to the walkout, said the BJP talks about women’s rights but links the implementation of reservations to delimitation.

He said if women are to be given rights, why wait for delimitation? It should be implemented immediately. Congress is demanding the same. Rathore added that women’s reservation should not become a showpiece or political drama, and Congress MLAs walked out over this issue.
